I ran a benchmark on an older Western Digital drive I have lying round, just for comparison, and got average read write of 21Mbps/25Mbps. Much better than the Maxtor M3 but I’m sure you’d agree still way too slow for a USB 3.0 drive! From my little experience the problem should be setting values on the SMB protocol (maybe some tweaks?).
