The commercial sources of the metal are the ores monazite and bastnäsite, which contain all the lanthanoids. WebCalcium was discovered by Sir Humphrey Davy of England in 1808. He dissolved lime into a mercuric oxide mixture know as calx. The first people to informally recognize calcium were the ancient romans but Davy was the first to formally recognize it and use it.
