This has happened (1) when in stop and go highway traffic; and (2) idling the car while waiting for the car wash. This goes away when I turn off the engine and wait a couple of minutes; re-start the car and everything is OK. Coolant is topped off and engine has oil. The only possible source of leaks are the side that mates with the engine block and the side where the thermostat goes. I highly doubt it's the thermostat. WebJan 5, 2024 · The other potential weak point is the o-ring where the coolant temperature sensor sits in the housing, from memory this is a bit more expensive and Ford don't supply it separately from the thermostat housing but Volvo do. About £18 delivered I think. Edit - actually they do, £12.99.

I've replace the one on my car and my gf's car now, the price difference is unbelievable. Both times I forgot about the o ring to seal the sensor as it doesn't come with that, but … WebJan 4, 2024 · src153. Three possible sources of leak. Thermostat, water pump, and a cracked plastic coolant tube at the top front of the engine compartment. Valve cover gasket can be a problem too, if oil leaks down around the thermostat housing. I had to replace both, and a cracked coolant tube too.

Valvecover leaks, oil seeps down the block where it comes into contact with the rubber o-ring, swells the o-ring and breaks the housing. I bought the housing, plug, sensor and thermostat from Steve @ Tousley and replaced everything.
